Keeping safe

ten pledges, five years, one community

By 2016 our communities will feel safe in their homes and in public places. They will enjoy clean, safe and well maintained parks, beaches, town and city centres.

To meet this aim, we would expect to see an improvement in the following measures during the next five years:

  • A reduction in overall crime and anti-social behaviour
  • An increase in the number of people feeling safe
  • Purple fl ag award achieved and retained, demonstrating that Canterbury is a safe and entertaining place for evening visitors
  • City and town centres meeting or exceeding cleaning standards.

A new Local Plan for the district

A new Local Plan for the district has progressed significantly over 2012. The plan aims to create the right conditions to encourage new investment that will diversify and strengthen the local economy. The council will be formally consulting on this important plan in the Spring of 2013
