Supporting sport and fitness

ten pledges, five years, one community

By 2016 we will have made a significant contribution to improving health and wellbeing in our district and we will have more people leading physically active lifestyles.

In order to meet this aim, we would expect to see progress on the following measures during the next five years:

  • An increase in the number of adults participating in physical activity (also shown by over 50’s)
  • An increase in the number of visits to leisure facilities owned by the council
  • An increase in the number of people participating in sports development programmes.
  • A reduction in Obesity levels in children

A new Local Plan for the district

A new Local Plan for the district has progressed significantly over 2012. The plan aims to create the right conditions to encourage new investment that will diversify and strengthen the local economy. The council will be formally consulting on this important plan in the Spring of 2013
